Our SAGA campaign is now well underway; Season 1 is complete, and Season 2 battles are now being fought. Have a look at the Age of the Wolf page for details.
At the end of Season 1 Darren was in the lead with a total of 1 Victory Point (after beating up Les' Saxons)...there was lots of 'Defending' in Season 1, and the other battle was a draw (Greg's Vikings vs Phil's Normans). We have three more battles to fight for Season 2 with Darren being engaged in three of them...so lots of opportunities for Victory Points! Detailed on the Age of the Wolf page, I have made one change to the campaign rules; players choosing the Raid option, can do this to gain either Reputation or Wealth. Anyway, have a look at the page for details of the campaign. Wayne

Lots of fun lately building a SAGA army and playing the game...not in that order as can be seen from the variety of figures being used in our early games.
I must say that I was quite impressed with the Gripping Beast 4 point starter army for the Saxons. It actually had enough bits for 32 figures...this required me to buy a separate Warlord (which I didn't mind), but gave me enough for 3 units of Hearthguard, 1 Warriors and 1 Levy...which I then boosted up with a Dark Ages Warriors box...so pretty happy all round! More pictures and stuff on the Projects page (Link). Sorry for the delay...but I have finally posted the last three Wars of the Roses scenarios; Mortimer's Cross, Second St Albans and Towton. Great games all.
I'm still waiting on the pictures for two of the scenarios (from play testing), but should have these up shortly. We did have some discussion at one of our last games in regards to an 'error' on one of the handstrokes cards. I did post a message to the Captain to get some clarification but have not yet had a response. I'll put together a description of our issue and our eventual compromise and post shortly...but it basically comes down to what to do when 'I'll not Shrink Back' is played against 'Stand Off Apace'...For this combination the 'Stand off Apace' card doesn't indicate who should participate in the combat (all fight, contact only or contact + half rest). It led to some 'interesting' discussions and analysis. If anybody else has encountered this issue and wishes to enlighten us as to the outcome/interpretation, we would be very interested. A couple of new items on the site. We have been playing two main sets of games lately. The first is the continuation of our Wars of the Roses Project; the Northampton Scenario and Battle Report have been posted (Link). Our second project is to find a decent set of World War 2 Skirmish rules. We have played several sets, the latest being disposable heroes (Link). It doesn't quite meet the standard as far as I'm concerned, but they are brining out a revised edition shortly, so you never know. Representing basic characteristics of infantry minor tactics and small unit actions seems to be an issue, fire and movement, suppression...finding the balance of course between realism and playability.
Hello again...just an update on latest stuff added to the site.
We have our second Wars of the Roses Scenario posted on the site. We play tested this one last month so there are some pictures as well. We have also played a bit of Dead Man's Hand lately so I have a few mini-scenarios that I will post shortly...we ran them as a bit of a round robin competition...great fun and I'll post the details shortly. Wayne Just added a couple of things to the site. This includes some counters that we use in our CD games (casualty/forced back, Artillery and minefields). Our fourth scenario (The Monastery) has also been posted and is a battle that was fought as part of our Korsun Pocket Campaign.
John Savage has also entered the fold as a contributor to this site with the first instalment of Wars of the Roses Scenarios added to the site. I wasn't going to include a Blog on this site, but then it was suggested that an easy method to identify new content could be a good idea. So I'll provide a link here to any new content that is added to the website.
So, for example, I just added a link to the latest Salerno Campaign in the battle report section. There are probably other ways of doing this, but a few older viewers were having trouble. We have several scenarios going through the final stages of editing, drawing of maps etc., so these should be ready to post soon. |
